Florida State Veterans Home

The Robert Jenkins, Jr. Assisted Living/Residence Home offers a unique combination of housing, individual support services, and medical support services for qualified veterans. Eligible veterans must reside in Florida for one year prior to eligibility and be honorably discharged. The care costs are calculated based on income.

Florida nursing homes for veterans

The state of Florida operates 6 Veterans Nursing Homes and 1 Statewide Nursing Home. Basic licensing requirements for all Florida veterans' homes include an honorable discharge, one year of residency in Florida prior to licensing, and certification of the need for nursing home care by a VA physician.

Many states have established state cemeteries for veterans. Eligibility is as with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) national cemeteries, but may include residency requirements. Although they may have been established or enhanced with state funding through the VA Veterans Cemetery Grant Program, state veterans' cemeteries are administered solely by the states.

Financial Benefits for Florida Veterans

Basic property tax exemptions

Resident veterans with a VA disability of at least 10% may receive a $5,000 deduction on the appraised value of their home. The single surviving spouse who was married to the veteran for at least 5 years may also be eligible for this exemption.

Liberation from family wealth

Florida resident veterans who are honorably discharged and have a 100% permanent and total disability and paraplegic veterans are exempt from paying property taxes on their residence.

Unmarried surviving spouses may also be eligible.

Driving license and identity card:Veterans with a 100% service-related disability are eligible for afree driver's license, with endorsements or an identity card. The same Veterans are also eligible for atoll-free Veteran designation on your driver's license or ID card. The Veteran designation can be used to demonstrate discount status at participating retailers.

Qualified veterans must present a valid United States Department of Veterans Affairs ID showing a 100%, complete, and permanent disability rating.

License plate:100% Disabled Veterans are eligible for a “DV” license plate at no cost to the applicant.

Florida provides four-year college education opportunities for dependent children and spouses of veterans who have died of a service-related disability or who are 100% associated with full-service and permanently disabled U.S. Armed Forces veterans.

Death Benefits for First Responders and Military Survivors

Spouses or dependents of deceased members of the Florida National Guard and US Forces are eligible for a tuition waiver equal to tuition and tuition and registration fees for a total of 120 credit hours or 3,600 hours of work. National Guard members must have been on active duty full-time in Florida. In addition, the deceased member of the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard must have resided in Florida or been on duty in Florida at the time of death. Recreational Benefits for Florida Veterans

Entrance to the state park

25% discount on the annual pass to all state parks for all honorably discharged veterans.

Veterans with a service-related disability may receive a complimentary military entry pass valid for entry into all Florida State Parks. This lifetime pass is valid for up to eight park admissions at most locations.

Identification, disability and honorable discharge are required.

Acceptable documentation includes:Valid drivers license; Documentation from the Department of Defense or other appropriate agency regarding service-related disabilities; Form DD 214 with honorable discharge.

The military entry pass can only be purchased in person at any Florida State Park.

Surviving spouses and parents of US soldiers who died in combat are also eligible for this pass.

Camp Discount:

If you plan to camp in the Sunshine State, you may be eligible for a 50% discount at your campground. This discount applies only to Florida residents 65 years of age or older or 100% disabled. Proof of age, disability and residence is required upon arrival to receive this discount.

Urban and urban parks

City and county parks offer free or discounted admission for active duty military personnel, honorably discharged or disabled veterans and their spouses. Check with your local county or municipality for details.

Hunting and fishing license

Active and retired military personnel in Florida can purchase a Gold Sportsman Military License for $20. The license includes hunting, freshwater and saltwater fishing, and a variety of related licenses at a greatly reduced cost.

Veterans who are 100% permanently affiliated with the service and are fully disabled are eligible for a free five-year hunting and fishing license.
