Peugeot 3008 is now actually an SUV
The first generation ofPeugeot 3008brought only modest sales figures. The mix of van, station wagon andSUVapparently left many interested parties at a loss to pursue clearer competing products. On approach, the first 3008 was quite successful, but the indecisive design probably put off many people who were willing to buy. The target group failed because the Peugeot 3008 did not attract station wagon owners, van drivers or SUV enthusiasts.
Peugeot learned - the successor to the unsuccessful hybrid, which has been on the market since October 2016, is a clear bet on the SUV. The classic shape of the SUV has significantly expanded the circle of potential buyers, which brings not only advantages. Because the range of competing products has now also become much larger. The unique selling point of the first 3008 has given way to a certain arbitrariness in the second model. In any case, the current 3008 will be more successful than its predecessor.
Equal among equals - the 3008 and the competition
From premium models like thisAudi Q3it's atBMW X1, one of the best sellers asFord Kuga,Skoda YetieVW Tiguanfor exotics likeHonda CR-VeSubaru XVthe spectrum of competing models is sufficient. Peugeot lines up well-behaved in the midst of this illustrious society. The design is less extreme than that of the Subaru, but due to the attractive curves it is much nicer than that of the Skoda Yeti.
In terms of dimensions (length 4.45 meters), the Frenchman is very similar to the VW Tiguan. Outside and inside, the Peugeot 3008 looks quite self-assured and independent, but without offering the optical strangeness of a Subaru XV. And not unimportantly: the 3008 is an in-house Peugeot build, not a "remade" Mitsubishi like the larger model 4008 (actually aMitsubishi ASX) It is the case).
Despite its attractive appearance, the 3008 will not have it easy in the highly competitive compact SUV segment.AudieBMWoffer more prestige, the VW Tiguan more space. The Skoda Yeti is cheaper, the Honda CR-V is more comfortable. And compared to the Subaru XV, which is always equipped with four-wheel drive, the front-wheel drive Peugeot looks old even when the worst happens, that is, off-road. Does Peugeot perhaps offer completely different qualities that the competition as a whole lacks?
Unspectacular mechanics - drive safely
When it comes to engines, Peugeot dares not experiment. The French rely on the tried and true - now it also includes the basic three-cylinder gasoline engine, 130 hp and 5.1 liters of standard consumption at a purchase price of 22,900 euros. Too much for a three cylinder? Wait a minute - the BMW X1's entry-level petrol engine doesn't offer a single cylinder for an additional 8,000 euros. Annoying: the only four-cylinder petrol engine (165 hp, 5.8 liters of standard consumption) in the 3008 is basically mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, which brings the purchase price to more than 30,000 euros.
1.6 liter diesel engines (120 hp, 4.0 liters of standard consumption) and two different two-liter diesel engines (150 hp, 4.4 liters and 180 hp, 4.8 liters) are offered, the latter again coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission.
All three diesel engines are fully recommended; however, they make little sense to infrequent drivers. Furthermore, the difference in price between gasoline and diesel reaches 17,000 euros, depending on the equipment and engine. Also problematic for potential buyers: the old adage "There's something for everyone!" it doesn't apply in the case of the 3008. If you don't like diesel, automatic or three cylinders, you need to look at the competition. And if you really want all-wheel drive, the Peugeot 3008 won't give you anything either. Comfort lovers at least get their money's worth?
Peugeot Hybrid and Hybrid4
FromSeptember 2019Peugeot offers thisFront-wheel drive hybrid modeland since02/2020omodel Hybrid4comfour wheel drive! According to the manufacturer, the two models consume only 1.5 l Super in combined transport. The 4x2 model with the performance of a165 kW (225 cv)it has two additional electric motors powering the front. The Hybrid4 flagship model with a220 kW (300 hp) system powerhas two electric motors, which makes this model a four-wheel drive vehicle. At the front, the gasoline engine and electric motor are driven or simultaneously, the rear wheels are driven by the electric motor only.
It's not a litter, but it's not a hard case either - a nice compromise in terms of comfort.
French cars used to be considered soft and particularly comfortable. That has passed. In times of increasingly rigid chassis, French manufacturers hardly differ from other European or Asian brands in terms of driving comfort. There are some extreme cases of difficulties among SUVs. A negative example at this point is theBMW X3first generation call. The Peugeot 3008, on the other hand, is much friendlier for the intervertebral discs of its passengers.
The French SUV is firm, but with a level of comfort worthy of mention. In other words: you can live with it. The pleasant and not too soft seats also contribute to the feeling of well-being. Sound comfort can also be seen or heard. The three-cylinder gasoline engine is recognizable as such, but not unpleasantly noticeable. And diesels are traditionally smooth-running and well-insulated (Peugeot has over 50 years of experience building diesel engines for cars).
Amenities - No fuss, but not too cheap
There are four equipment lines for the 3008, the highest, called "GT", is reserved exclusively for the 180 hp diesel. On the other hand, there is the basic "Access" variant, which is only available for the cheap three-cylinder. But it's already complete. On-board computer, audio system, air conditioning, cruise control, leather steering wheel - everything is there. The next top equipment variant "Active" is not worth it for the three cylinders, because it costs more than 3000 euros and offers little more than automatic air conditioning, fog lights and alloy wheels. "Active" is already included in all other engines. It is worth considering the 165 hp gasoline engine, as it already comes with the very rich "Allure" equipment. Commendable: Peugeot offers numerous individual options for the 3008, so it doesn't go along with the bad habit of mandatory packages.
