LOS ANGELES, May 04, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Verizon recently made major upgrades to its network serving customers in Los Angeles, CA. These upgrades are part of a multi-year redesign of the network architecture to stay ahead of exponential increases in data usage, upgrade technology across the network and pave the way for personalized user experiences. Network upgrades in Los Angeles include the deployment of new cell sites to expand coverage and capacity in local communities. They also include adding more capacity to fiber optic cables to carry more data through the network and adding bandwidth to the cellular network to enable new services such as wireless Internet for homes and businesses. Details of the upgrades include:
- Engineers in Los Angeles quickly deployed 5G Ultra Wideband throughout the area. That coverage was recently expanded with the addition of fourteen new macrocell sites and more than 400 small cells in the past year. Customers in the following areas can now experience the speed and security of 5G Ultra Wideband service.
- Lynwood area south of the 105 Freeway along North Long Beach Blvd and E. Orchard St.
- In Culver City, near the intersection of Washington Blvd and Midway Ave. This place enhances the area near the Sony Pictures studio.
- Along East Lanzit Avenue and South Central Ave, improving coverage in the Nickerson Gardens area.
- Along the 710 Fwy and 405 Freeway, improving coverage near East Del Amo Blvd and Vermont Ave.
- In Granada Hills South, improving coverage along Balboa Blvd and San Fernando Mission Blvd.
- In Pomona, improving coverage along the intersection of Highway 60 and Highway 71.
- At the Westdrift Hotel in Manhattan Beach, in a bustling commercial area with multiple office buildings, restaurants, shopping areas and hotels.
- Above Hermosa Beach
- In East LA, near South Atlantic Blvd and the 60 Freeway.
- Off Highway 105 and Crenshaw.
- In Hacienda Heights, improving coverage of Los Robles Park and the 60 Freeway.
- In Huntington Park, at the intersection of Pacific Blvd and Randolph St., to improve coverage and service at Huntington Park High School
- Sepulveda Blvd north and south passes under the LAX runway
- Los Angeles' exceptional 5G coverage uses a combination of mmWave spectrum and Verizon spectrumrecently acquired C-band spectrum. Verizon engineers are limited to using 60 MHz of C-band spectrum to deliver 5G services to customers. By the end of the year, customers in Los Angeles will be able to take advantage of even more spectrum that will become available for 5G Ultra Wideband. That extra bandwidth will improve the service, with significantly higher speeds, much higher capacity to serve more users and more robust services.
- Finally, the addition of 5G service and a number of additional wireless solutions means that much more data can travel over the wireless network in Los Angeles. This exponential increase in data moving to and from mobile sites serving the community requires improved fiber optic connections. Fiber optic cables are used to transfer data between mobile sites and connect those sites to the rest of the network. Verizon has increased the capacity of fiber connections at many cell sites in the Los Angeles area, allowing them to transmit 10 times the amount of data.
"Whether our customers enjoy connecting with friends and family while on the go, connecting their smart homes through one of our home Internet products, or using our service in Los Angeles for small business or enterprise applications, we know customers are counting on us," said is Phillip French, Vice President of Engineering and Operations at Verizon. "Our team has been working hard in Los Angeles to achieve these results and we are not slowing down."
With these and other technological advancements on Verizon's network, customers can use more data in more ways. This multi-service network ensures:
- Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices that connect very little and stay put,
- Smartphones with unlimited data usage possibilities in a highly mobile environment,
- Home and business Internet that provides wireless network connectivity for homes, offices and retail environments, and
- Complex solutions such as augmented reality or real-time video and data analysis for companies that need massive computing power.
As 5G technology advances and becomes more widely accepted by consumers, the variety of solutions that will use Verizon's network will also continue to evolve.
